A 'first of its kind' leisure facility for the North East will be opening in County Durham after the first images and confirmation of the location emerged online.

True Padel, which is a padel tennis venue, will be opening near Belmont Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Durham City after signs and a social media campaign appeared for the company.

The introduction of several padel tennis locations across the UK has seen a surge in the number of people playing the sport.

Padel Tennis differs from the normal game of tennis, mainly by the court having walls and the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in the game of squash and solid, stringless bats are used.

News of the upcoming Durham padel tennis courts came after True Padel posted online to give several updates about the venue, including the location and the progress of the build.

Taking to social media on September 19, an image showed the main building of the venue and the builders making progress to the inside of the courts.
