Nine motorists have been named and fined in court after being caught speeding in County Durham.

The cases were heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 14 and 19.

Ryan James Turnbull, 28, of Bridge Street, Howden le Wear, Crook, was driving a Ford VRM when he was caught exceeding the 30mph limit on South Terrace, Low Jobs Hill on March 10. The case was proved under the Single Justice Procedure and he was fined £440.

He was also ordered to pay a £176 surcharge and costs of £45 – a total of £661. His licence was endorsed with 4 points.

Kevin Race, 35, of Lilac Square, Houghton-le-Spring, was driving a Ford when he was caught exceeding the 30mph limit on the A690 at West Rainton, on March 1. The case was found proved.

He was fined £220.00 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £88 and costs of £90 – a totalof £398. His licence was endorsed with 3 points.

David John Alexander, 37, of Pine Avenue, Houghton-le-Spring, was driving a Ford when he was caught exceeding the 30 mph limit on the B1283 Hall Walks, Easington Village, on March 9. The case was found proved.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £88 and costs of £90 – a total of £398. He licence was endorsed with 3 points.

Stephen Clark, 64, of Insula Cottages, Bishop Middleham, Ferryhill, was driving an Audi when he was caught exceeding the 30mph limit on the B6288 North Road in Spennymoor on March 13. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was fined £161 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £64 and costs of £90 – a total of £315. His licence was endorsed with 3 points.

Stoica Daniel, 23, of Leven Street, Middlesbrough, was driving a Vauxhall when she was caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit in the C135 Wellfield Road, Wingate, on March 9. The case was found proved.

A fine of £220 was imposed, along with an £88 surcharge and £90 costs – a total of £398. His licence was endorsed with 3 points.

William McKenzie, 40, of Tebay Close, Darlington, was caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit on the B6280 Coniscliffe Road, in a Skoda on on March 9.  

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £40, ordered to pay a surcharge of £16.00 and costs of £90 - a total of £146. His licence was endorsed with 3 points.

Ellie Brooke Collins, 21, of Edderacres Walk, Wingate, was driving a Vauxhall Mokka when she was caught exceeding the 30mph limit on the B1283 Hall Walks, Easington Village, on December 9, 2022. The case was proved in her absence. 

She was fined £120 and ordered to pay a surcharge £48 and costs of £110 - a total of £278. Her licence was record endorsed with 4 points.,

James Hudson, 46, of Meanwood Road, Leeds, was driving a Tesla Model 3 when he was caught exceeding the £70mph motorway limit on the A1(M) in County Durham, on April 2.  He entered a plea of guilty.

He was fined £692 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £277 and costs of £110 - a total of £1,079. He was disqualified from driving for six months "due to repeat offending".

Jordan David Humphrey, 24, of Frederick Street, Coundon, Bishop Auckland, was driving a Nissan Juke when he was caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit on the A68, Castleside to West Auckland, on April 3. The case was proved in his absence.

He was fined £550 and ordered to pay costs of £110 and a surcharge of £220 - a total of £880. There was no obligatory driving disqualification for special reasons - assisting with medical appointments for mother and grandfather.
