A disgraced teacher who told a student she ticked all of his boxes and had “changed [his] life dramatically for the better” has been banned from the classroom.

His relationship with her was deemed 'inappropriate' by a misconduct panel.

Lloyd Harrison, 35, bought the student a book and left a note inside with a list of attributes he looked for in a partner, telling her, “You tick every box”.

The Design and Technology (DT) teacher taught at a North Tyneside school between September 2012 and August 2016 when he struck up the relationship, a teaching misconduct panel heard.

The girl, known as Pupil A, had been taught by him since 2014 but was in sixth form when she said the relationship began to change in 2016.

In a statement to Northumbria Police, who investigated the matter but took no further action, the girl said: “He brought me an architect book which had a lengthy note wrote inside… this note was signed off as ‘All my love Lloyd xxx’.

“I interpreted the note in the book to be about me and how I was the type of person he wanted a relationship with.”

Harrison listed qualities he “looked for in a partner” including “looks to die for” and told the girl, “You are all of those things on that list”.

The misconduct panel described the note as “wholly inappropriate” and said he was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct.

The pair met outside of school about a week later, on or around July 22, 2016. The panel said Mr Harrison was “developing or engaging in an inappropriate relationship” with her.

The girl said in a police statement she had gone to Mr Harrison’s home a week later where they watched a film and kissed. She then claimed to have visited his home again at the beginning of August 2016 and said they had consensual sex on six occasions in the following month. The misconduct panel did not find the allegations proven, saying there was insufficient evidence.

When asked about his relationship with Pupil A a year later in September 2017 when he was now teaching at a school in Newcastle, he claimed he knew her through family and never directly taught her, when he had in fact done so. He left that school in February 2020.

He also said the relationship had taken place after he left the first school, despite the incident with the book and meeting on July 22 being before his contract there ended.

Concluding the hearing the panel decided Mr Harrison’s actions were deliberate and said he had not submitted any evidence showing remorse. He also failed to attend the misconduct hearing.

It said Harrison fell “significantly short” of the standards expected of teachers and banned him from the classroom.

He will be unable to teach in ay school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children’s home in England, and will only be able to apply to have his ban revoked after three years.
