Two teenagers have been arrested in a police foot chase after a woman’s motorbike was stolen.

The woman reported her bike missing from her home in Middleton St George in the early hours of last Sunday (September 10).

Officers hunted down the bike, which failed to stop, and followed towards Darlington before their two suspects went off-road and made off.

One had been riding the motorcycle while the other was sitting on the back.

The pair made off but officers, who have since been named as PCs Murphy and Hawman, gave foot chase and managed to apprehend them. They also recovered the bike.

A 19-year-old man and 16-year-old boy were both arrested on suspicion of theft, dangerous driving, failing to stop and having no licence or insurance.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “An investigation is currently ongoing and the bike will be returned to its rightful owner.”
