A proud group of players at a well-known North East bowls club have been celebrating their best competition season yet, winning not only their league but several other titles.

Members of the Blackhall Bowls Club in Hartlepool have brought another bowls season to a close with a swathe of trophies and titles.

The Blackhall Bandits as they are known have dominated the Hartlepool Districts Bowl League this year, sweeping home ten trophies from both A and B teams as well as in the Veterans League.

Around twelve bowlers make up each team, with the club having around 35 members currently.

Stanley Grey, who has been involved with the club for the last fifteen years, praised the teams’ success.

“We do feel very proud that we have won all of these competitions. The feeling in the club is that we can stick our chests out and say we have done really well and enjoyed it all.

  • The Blackhall Bandits won the Ces Foster Memorial Trophy in defeating the Hartlepool Old Boys at Eldon Grove Bowling Club.
  • Paul Hartley, Gary Vaughan, and George Thompson won the Durham County Triples Title and progressed to the National Finals at Leamington but sadly were beaten which was a great achievement for Blackhall Bowls Club.
  • Paul Hartley & Gary Vaughan won the Peterlee Open Pairs.
  • Keith Bell and Derek Bell also won the Peterlee Vets Pairs Bowls Competition.
  • Keith Bell is The Club Champion going forward to next years Champion of Champions.
  • The Blackhall Vets A team are also Champions of the East Coast Veterans League.

  • The Blackhall Vets also won the Blackhall Memorial Trophy with a team comprising - Bob Alder, John Davies, Tommy Nattrass, and Eddie Spalding.
  • Bob Alder, Dougie Stephenson, & John Davies won the Vets Triple Competition.
  • Bob Alder & Dougie Stephenson won the Vets Pairs Competition.
  • Bob Alder reached the Final of the Vets Singles competition but ended up being runner up.
