Not only does the Great North Run give thousands of people the opportunity to raise money for charities close to their hearts, but it also gives runners the chance to win cash prizes.

However, this only applies to those who have qualified for the elite performance criteria in the event.

For 2023, winners at the world’s biggest half-marathon from Newcastle to South Shields could win an impressive £1,500.

Other UK sporting events throughout the year that offer the same reward for elite athletes include the Great Manchester Run and the Great South Run.

Great North Run tracking app – how to use it

The Great Run offers an app for iOS and Android devices where runners can find their finish times and friends and family can track their loved ones.

The best way to find your running time result is by using your race number.

The Great Run website advises: “On the results landing page, enter your race number into the search box, choose your event and click search.

“You can also search by the runner’s name and you will get a list of all the people matching that name.

“Finally, you can do a more complex search using the advanced search page where there are lots of options to refine the criteria of the person you are searching for.”
