A council are appealing for information after a brazen off-road biker was caught destroying a CCTV column with a hammer.

The biker was caught on camera at Teesside Crematorium on Wednesday, July 26 before making his way to Saltersgill Avenue.

Once there, he was seen climbing up a CCTV column and smashing the cameras with a hammer.

The attack caused around £3,000 of damage to the CCTV opposite the Sainsbury’s Local store.

The damage, caused at around 2.40pm, was so severe the equipment has since been removed and replaced.

Middlesbrough Council is now appealing for help identifying the man who was wearing a black Canada Goose jacket and navy blue Under Armour tracksuit bottoms.

Dale Metcalfe, Middlesbrough Council’s Operational Community Safety Manager, said: “Our CCTV cameras are there for everyone’s safety and security, and we know how much they are valued by local communities.

“They are a hugely important tool in the fight against crime and antisocial behaviour, and the fact that attacks like this take place is a powerful testament to their effectiveness.

“Someone knows who this individual is – give us a name in confidence and we’ll ensure he is brought to justice for his actions.”
