A County Durham landmark has been featured on a popular BBC programme that saw a host of celebrities take part in a challenge at the tourist destination.

Those who watched BBC at 8pm on Tuesday (August 29) may have seen some familiar surroundings, as Beamish Museum was the destination for Celebrity MasterChef.

Featuring heavily throughout the show, the attraction, which promotes life in the North East throughout history, was the backdrop for the semi-finals of the TV show.

Throughout Tuesday's episode, well-known sights of Beamish's 1950s town were spotted, while many of the staff that work at Beamish were seen in the backdrop.

It was the staff at the museum that also got treated by the celebrity chefs after 100 volunteers were served a large-scale lunch.

With a picture of 100s of its volunteers queued up outside, the Beamish caption read: "Did you see us on Celebrity MasterChef last night? Celebrities including comedian and actor Marcus Brigstocke, opera singer and broadcaster Wynne Evans and musician Max George served up a feast for 100 of the museum’s staff and volunteers.
