If you’re not one of the thousands of participants preparing to take part in the Great North Run 2023, then you might be hoping to watch the runners in action instead.

The biggest half-marathon in the world will return once again on September 10 and will feature none other than Olympic Champion Sir Mo Farah who will be running his last professional race.

There are plenty of places to watch loved ones or just to support those running for good causes through Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields.

Let’s take a look at some of the best places to watch, including where to see the Red Arrows perform.

Some of the best places to watch the Great North Run 2023

The Tyne Bridge

One of the most famous spots to watch the Great North Run is the Tyne Bridge.

Not only is it an iconic landmark in the North East but it makes a great viewing spot for the event and provides a good chance of seeing the Red Arrows to take the perfect pictures.

Gateshead Stadium

Location: Neilson Road, Gateshead, NE10 0EF

This stretch of the Great North Run which passes through Gateshead's Park Road doesn’t tend to get as busy compared to the Tyne Bridge area if you want to see the run in action.

This is just one of the pubs which is placed ideally along the Great North Run route.

The Northern Echo:

Coast Road

Location: Coast Road, South Shields, NE34 7BS

If you want a good spot, you may need to head down to Coast Road early as it’s along the finish line for the Great North Run.

It’s a nice way of getting involved in the celebrations as the runners take their final strides after months of preparation.

Camden Street bridge

Location: Footbridge over the Newcastle Central Motorway - A167 (a short way north of the Northumbria University Footbridge)

This bridge is not too far along the route and is close to Newcastle city centre if you want to stop by to watch the half-marathon on the day.
