A big-name brand is expected to open a new store at a retail park near Durham after plans for the shop were unveiled by the company.

Despite already boasting the likes of B&Q, Boots, Currys, Sports Direct and McDonald's nearby, proposals for Wickes to move into St Andrews Park, Dragon Lane, are in the pipeline.

The plans, which were submitted to Durham County Council, show the signage that will be used for the front and side of the shop, which hadn't been revealed as Wickes up until this point.

In the detailed drawings in the planning portal, the Wickes branding can be seen prominently - confirming the brand will be moving into the Dragonville site.

This application follows on from the outline permission granted to build a retail unit with car parking and landscaping back in February 2019.

It's expected that Wickes will move into the unit next to McDonald's, which is currently undergoing building work.

The company themselves haven't yet confirmed a date for the opening of the new store, but The Northern Echo has approached them for comment.

St Andrews Park is located near Dragonville Retail Park, which has a host of big-name brands, including Lidl, Aldi, Home Bargains, Tesco and TK Maxx.

This will be the seventh Wickes located in the North East, which will join its stores already in Darlington, Stockton, Sunderland, Wallsend, South Shields and Newcastle.
