A customer notice has now been placed in the window for customers, stating the decision was made after "careful consideration" as they thank users for their "valued custom".

A 50% off sale has also begun, offering discounts on selected items.

Locals in the area will now have to use Cockerton Pharmacy also on West Auckland Road, located yards from Rowlands Pharmacy.

A Rowlands Pharmacy spokesperson commented: “We know how much people value their local pharmacy and regret that our pharmacy in West Auckland is no longer viable due to too few people using it for their pharmaceutical needs.

“Prior to making this difficult decision, we had discussions with the Health Board, who have the statutory responsibility to ensure the pharmaceutical care needs of local residents are met.
