A bus driver reportedly quit his job and left passengers locked inside the vehicle in the middle of the journey.

The incident happened on the 21-service bus from Durham to Newcastle’s Eldon Square on Wednesday (August 16) night.

It is claimed the driver left the bus near the Angel of the North, closing the doors and saying, ‘you can stuff your job’.

Go North East confirmed the incident had happened and said it would investigate.

The driver is said to have pulled up at a stop near the Angel before leaving the passengers on board to figure out how to get off the bus, the BBC reports.
