One of Darlington's most beautiful parks has been spoilt again by a fence being vandalised multiple times.

South Park is one of the most popular green spaces of the town but one fence has been repeatedly vandalised.

Residents were pleased to see that it had finally been repaired after months of being taped off but days later it has been destroyed again.

The fence has now been taped up, ruining a stunning view of a water fountain beyond it.

From pictures taken from the scene, it looks like someone has kicked out the individual planks leaving a gaping hole in the centre of the fence.

An angry resident who wished to remain anonymous said: "This makes me really angry, what a waste.

"What do these people think they’re achieving by doing such damage?

"The fence was only recently repaired and reinforced, so the people who have done it must have made a big effort to vandalise the fence.

"There’s a sign that mentions the area is covered by CCTV, so I hope those guilty have been caught on camera."

Councillor Matthew Roche, representing Park East, described how disappointing it is to see such a beautiful park spoilt.

He said: "It is very disappointing to see this happening.

"We fix things and then to see them damaged again so soon is very tough.

"We don't have much vandalism occurring at South Park so it stands out.

"I go there a lot with my family and it is a wonderful place to go to.

"Hopefully it will not happen again."
