Police officers helped to rescue a woman at Newton Cap Viaduct in Bishop Auckland during a welfare incident last night (August 11).

Emergency services were called to the viaduct at around 9.40pm following concerns for the welfare of a woman. 

On Saturday (August 12), Durham Police confirmed that, after arriving on the scene, officers brought the incident to a safe conclusion.

The police force also confirmed that the woman was taken to hospital, where she is receiving the appropriate care.
