Lidl has pinpointed the exact locations of where 11 of its new stores could open in the North East by 2025.

After more than a million shoppers apparently switched to the discount store from other supermarkets in 2022, it’s set its ambitions high and revealed a long list of areas in the running to get new stores.

Lidl already has 950 sites across the UK, but it plans to expand to reach a whopping 1,100 by the end of 2025, creating 4,000 new jobs.

Though the list of potential areas for its new sites is long, a much smaller number will actually be chosen.

The prospective locations include high-street stores, standalone stores, and mixed-use and shopping-centre stores in England.

Here are the all the places apparently in the running for a brand-new Lidl across the North East:

  • Chester-le-Street
  • Middlesbrough – multiple
  • Newton Aycliffe
  • Stokesley
  • Stockton – multiple
  • Sedgefield
  • Seaham
  • Marske/Saltburn
  • Eston
  • Cramlington
  • Shiremoor

It's worth pointing out that this list isn't conclusive and doesn't mean that Lidl will open in these locations - but has been long-listed by the supermarket as a potential for future expansion.

Lidl has also stated that some of the locations listed are currently where plans have been approved or building work has begun on a new Lidl.
