The broadcaster will start work in December and will be heard on the airwaves on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Stelling revealed his delight at securing his next role, which will see him link up with much-loved pundit McCoist.

He said: “I’m so pleased to be joining the team at talkSPORT. As a long-time listener to the show it’s a dream of mine to sit in the legendary chair and wake people up every Monday and Tuesday.

“I might not be looking forward to the 4:30 alarm call, but I am looking forward to getting stuck in with great guests, chat and fun every morning alongside the legendary Ally McCoist.”

Stelling’s appointment comes following Laura Woods’ decision to leave her role presenting the breakfast show to join TNT Sports. Until Stelling’s arrival in December, McCoist will be joined by Natalie Sawyer and Andy Townsend, with Alan Brazil fronting the other three mornings in the week.

McCoist will join Brazil on Wednesdays, with Gabby Agbonlahor co-hosting on Thursdays and Ray Parlour joining on Fridays. talkSPORT have also boosted their team with the signings of former Premier League managers Martin O’Neill and Alan Pardew.
