RECENT planning applications submitted to North Yorkshire Council include:

  •  Full planning permission for change of use of part of York House, in Market Place, Richmond, from commercial to residential use.

Richmond Town Council had no objections to the proposal. Richmond Business and Tourism Association said: "We have no objection and welcome the fact that there will still be retail on the ground floor. Although we recognise that it is outside the planning process, we hope that the residential conversions will not be holiday lets."

  •  Planning permission to change an existing dwelling into bedsits and flats to provide staff accommodation at Washfold Farm, Moor Road, Leyburn.

Washfold Farm is an established farm sitting on the edge of Leyburn. It is accessed via Moor Road.

The farm has many modern agricultural buildings and also traditional stone buildings.

Off the main farmyard and opposite the site offices there is a 4- bedroom house. This is currently used as staff accommodation.

The plans involve changing this house into separate living accommodation for seasonal employees, creating eight bedsits/flats. The farm experiences an increase in demand for labour during harvesting season and they employ contractors to come and work to help with combine harvesting and forage harvesting. These employees need accommodation whilst they are working on the farm.
