Mobile operator Three has been called to solve signal problems affecting a North East town centre for more than a month.

Residents in Darlington reported issues receiving calls or messages, and with data connectivity in June with many saying their connection had totally cut out in the town centre.

Three admitted an issue with its service saying it was working to rectify the problem “as soon as possible”.

But a month on many of its customers are still complaining of 4G outages in the town with no estimated end date for the disruption.

The Echo understands the issue arose after a power issue with the transmitted mounted on the eyesore Northgate House.

A generator has been in place for more than a month, which is believed to be affecting coverage.

Discussions are said to be ongoing to restore the permanent power supply, but Three could not say when it expects this work to be completed and full service restored.

A spokesperson said: “We are continuing to work on issues at this site to restore full service to customers in central Darlington.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and any customers suffering issues to contact Three customer services to report the problem.

MP Peter Gibson has now raised the issue with Three in a bid to end the disruption.

He said: “I have raised the issue with Three and I look forward to residents in Darlington having their service fully up and running shortly.”
