Police have been dealing with an emergency on Norton high street earlier this afternoon (July 21)

The Green was cordoned off as emergency services attended the incident.

A number of fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles arrived at the scene to help.

Cleveland Police have confirmed that a man had been up on the scaffolding but that he was now safely back on the ground.

He is now in police care.

A spokesperson said: "We are in attendance at an incident in Norton.

"He is down from the scaffold now and in the back of a police van.

"He will be taken for an assessment somewhere."

Cleveland Fire Brigade were in attendance as protective standby.

A spokesperson said: "We are in attendance near the duck pond in Norton.

"A male has climbed the scaffolding and we are there on protective standby."
