A council has imposed an ‘unscheduled’ emergency road closure that will last a number of days while a team investigates a sinkhole.

The Green in Norton, Stockton, has been closed this evening (July 20) by Stockton Borough Council whilst a sinkhole is inspected.

The road, which joins Beaconsfield Road at the centre of Norton, is now expected to be closed for several days while work is carried out.

Motorists will now be diverted away from the road with a signed diversion to access the main High Street in Norton.

A full statement by the council reads: “An unscheduled emergency road closure is in place on The Green in Norton town centre at the junction with Beaconsfield Road.

“This is in place to allow investigations to be carried out on a sinkhole. The closure is likely to last a number of days to allow the necessary repairs to be actioned.

“A signed diversion will be in place throughout the closure and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
