A North East shopper has vowed to never return to a branch of Tesco after seeing the sign on its click and collect service spelt incorrectly.

The shopper, who wishes to remain anonymous, visited the North Shields branch of the supermarket earlier this week - when they saw the error on Tesco's website page.

After joining the queue of a click and collect lane at the supermarket, the shopper said that Shields was spelt 'Sheilds' - branding the 'simple' error as "sloppy".

The error, which was picked up quickly by the shopper, appears to be a reason for them not wanting to set foot in the branch of Tesco until it is corrected.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, the shopper said: “I was furious – it shows a total lack of contempt to the area that they can’t even spell the town right.

“You know this mistake wouldn’t happen in London, plus it isn’t like we live in Merthyr Tydfil – how hard is it to spell Shields correctly?!

“It summed up the new click and collect system – sloppy – and I won’t be going back until they return to the old system and spell North Shields properly.”

The Northern Echo has contacted Tesco about its spelling error on its click and collect North Shields service.
