A restaurant boasting pizza and parmos is coming to Darlington Market later this week - with the new venutre now telling diners what to expect.

Due to open on Thursday (July 6), PP’s will offer a selection of seven sourdough pizzas and five different versions of parmos using locally sourced and “the best quality” ingredients.

The new enterprise will be run by Darlington resident Ory Vanes, his brother Keaton Linehan, 23 and fellow experienced chef Dan Rooney, 34; the same team behind SiDES Darlington.

SiDES might have only opened in June, but its brunches, sandwiches and array of sides has taken the market by storm.

Four units down from SiDES Darlington, the owners of PP’s has alreasy committed to utilising existing traders at the market using fruit and vegetables from JJ Blair and Sons and meat and eggs via David Jackson Butchers.

The pizzas range from “The Hot One” which includes house red sauce, pepperoni, roasted red chillies, smoked paprika honey, mojo sauce and mozzarella to “The Veggie One” consisting of house red sauce, roast peppers, roasted garlic mushrooms, corn, miso butter onions, mozzarella cheese and herbs.

The parmos, all served with house salad and chips, range from “The OG” described as “a normal above average parmo - panko breaded chicken, house béchamel, lots of cheese” to “The Pepperoni One”.

Customers can also opt for a pizza or parmo dubbed “The Special One” - described as “this week's oddly strange concoction that the chefs have come up with”.

The latest arrival comes after designs were recently released showing the new designer boutiques and artisan stalls.

Under Phase 3 of a multi-million-pound makeover, the new section will house around a dozen new artisans and traders such as barbers, beauticians, tattooists, traditional over-the-counter businesses, high-quality fashion, and food from November.

Speaking about the new venture, Ory Vanes said: “We just want to build on our ethos of serving simple food using the best ingredients with people able to share a delicious bite to eat while they socialise.

“Market Asset Management have always been supportive and happy to discuss our ideas and all the traders have come over and tried our food and been very complimentary.

“We are bringing a modern twist to street food and the new designs are bringing the market up to the 21st Century and it's pretty cool, something different and exciting.”

Other major redevelopment at the market recently has ranged from revamped shop front fascia to the recent opening of a new sophisticated 1920s themed bar, The Vault.

Phase 2 of the redevelopment which began in August 2022 also includes revamped shop front fascia and entrances, a new shop floor café, new public and trader toilets on the ground floor and new toilets to the basement.

MAM's Darlington General Manager, Michael Harvey, added: “With the recent transformational work and the brilliant new boutiques and stalls coming under Phase 3, it is such an exciting time for the market.

“The fact we have a business wishing to open a second venture just a month after launching their first is fantastic and only supports our unwavering commitment to ensure this is a place people love to shop, eat, drink and be entertained.”
