A woman was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a wall on a rural County Durham road this afternoon. 

Emergency services were alerted after the collision on the B6277 at Cotherstone, near Barnard Castle, in Teesdale, shortly after noon. 

The woman was treated at the scene by medics from the Great North Air Ambulance and North East Ambulance Service, before she was taken by road to hospital.

The road at Spout Bank remained closed to traffic for a number of hours, while police 

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a car colliding with a wall on the B6277 at Cotherstone, shortly after noon, today (Tuesday, July 4).

"One woman was taken to hospital for treatment."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Spout Bank in Cotherstone at 11.53am today.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and were supported by Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken by road to Darlington Memorial Hospital for further treatment."
