A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary following an incident on Sunday (July 2).

It was reported that a woman in her 70s was tied up and threatened before her bank card was stolen at the incident on Japonica Way in Norton.

She has been left with facial injuries and is badly shaken.

Police were spotted at the scene of the incident for a lot of the day on Sunday, which saw several police vehilces parked outside the address.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said at the time: “It was reported that a male intruder bound the victim’s arms and legs and stole her bank card before making numerous threats.

"The victim was taken to hospital for facial injuries and shock and has been left extremely shaken by the incident.”

The man in his 40s arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary remains in police custody at this time.
