Disney fans including Cookie Freaks’ owners Kieron and Macy have been travelling nearly ten hours to get their fix of the park’s exclusive dessert since it was first served in the 1980s.

Named Dole Whip soft serve, the dessert is described as an even mix between ice cream and sorbet with a strong pineapple taste.

There are only a select few places to buy Dole Whip in the UK, until Cookie Freaks in Gateshead finally brought the popular sweet treat to the North East.

We headed along to the store on June 30 to try the Dole Whip and try some of the heavenly-looking cookies.

After long deliberation and perusing the menu, we went for a Malteser Stuffed Cookie, a Milky Bar Cookie Bar and a Vanilla and Jam Cookie Sandwich.

We also bought two tubs of the £4 Dole Whip and a Lotus Biscoff Latte, said to be a favourite amongst the store’s customers.

Despite having visited Florida and Disneyworld four times, I had never actually tried Dole Whip, so I was extremely excited to understand the hype.

Whilst in the store, I chatted to co-owner Macy, who admitted the response to adding the Disney treat to the menu has generated an overwhelming response on social media.

She said “hundreds” of tubs of the pineapple-flavoured dessert have been sold every day since it was added to the menu in late June.

The whip is gluten and dairy free as well as being vegan, making it accessible to anyone with specific dietary requirements.

The Dole Whip has a creamy sort of texture but feels closer to a sorbet. The pineapple taste is immediate and incredibly sweet; however, it is more refreshing than overwhelming.

The closest thing I could compare the Dole Whip to is the outside of a Solero Ice Lolly, but the sweetness also reminded me of Skittles. I thoroughly enjoyed it – and I can see why it is a favourite of Disney lovers.

Next up was the cookies. My pick was the Milkybar Cookie bar priced at £4, and I must say – I have absolutely no regrets about my choice.

The white chocolate cookie base sandwiched a soft ganache-like Milkybar centre that was insanely creamy and tasted like perfectly melted Milkybar chocolate.

It was also a huge portion, meaning I have been cutting pieces off it and enjoying it with a cup of tea. Other cookies were of the same size and came in at an average of £3 or slightly over.

However, for the price they are it is great value for money. You could easily spread the treat over a day or two rather than eating it all at once.

For our other picks, the Biscoff Latte was sweet yet not overly tart and had enough quality espresso to balance it out.

Overall, I have to say that Cookie Freaks serves up some deliciously tempting treats with enough flavours to please any palate.

I would head back in a heartbeat, and I cannot wait to try some of their other bakes.
