Construction work has started on a £7.9m specialist care home in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, providing more than 100 jobs.

Laurel Place is set to open next summer and will create more than 100 healthcare jobs in the local area, including healthcare assistants, Registered Nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Recruitment will start soon, but candidates can register their interest ahead of any deadlines at: https://www.exemplarhc.com/care-homes/laurel-place

The project is for Exemplar Health Care, a leading provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with complex needs, and will be delivered by Yorkshire-based S&SA architects and contractor Walter Thompson.

The home will support adults living with acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, and physical disabilities, providing community care to adults who would otherwise have a prolonged stay in hospital.

The home will be split into three communities – as small group living provides a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment – and each of the 32 bedrooms will have its own ensuite wet room.

Additionally, the home will feature six apartments, split across the three communities, which are specially designed for adults who are ready to live more independently, while also knowing that specialist healthcare support remains available around the clock.

The home will also have communal dining and living spaces, sensory bathrooms, an activities hub, a large accessible garden, and a dedicated therapy room offering holistic therapeutic care and support led by the in-home physiotherapist and occupational therapist.

Steve Rigby, Head of Developments at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We are delighted to start work on our new specialist care home, Laurel Place, in Bishop Auckland. This development underscores our steadfast commitment to providing exceptional nursing care for adults with complex needs.”
