A man has been charged in connection with an incident which saw armed police descend on shopping parade after reports of people fighting with weapons.

In dramatic scenes on Thursday (June 22) afternoon officers with weapons descended on the shops on Dumbarton Avenue in Ragworth, Stockton.

A man was pictured lying on the ground surrounded by police with guns.

Six people, five men and one woman, were arrested following the incident. No one is believed to have been injured.

Now a 31-year-old man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was remanded in custody to appear at court yesterday (Saturday, June 24) morning.

The five others arrested have been questions and released on bail pending further investigations.

Officers are continuing to probe the incident and are still appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist their enquiries.
