North Yorkshire’s biggest free food and live music festival is making a comeback this year for its ninth festival after a period away.

The multi-award-winning Homegrown Food Festival, in Northallerton, will be held at the Applegarth on Sunday, June 25 from 10am and 5pm.

This year’s cookery demonstrations, by well-known, local chefs, will have a theme of making the most of local produce and reducing food waste.

Hosting the chef demonstration is long term friend of the festival Irene Myers who has been working with the Homegrown Food Festival since the beginning.

Chefs this year include Gareth Bottomley from The Station Restaurant/Bar, Richmond), Martyn Hyde, Jon Appleby, Jason Moore and Jack Baldwin.

Gareth is a proud Yorkshireman, who has spent his career living and working in the county. Together with his wife Emma, Gareth runs the Station Café/Bar, an award-winning restaurant at the heart of the restored Victorian railway building.

Gareth uses the very finest locally sourced produce from Richmond and the surrounding areas, in his seasonal and special event menus.

New for this year is a new layout for the event on the Applegarth, with the Kids Zone in the chilled Applegarth School grounds and the music and Tipple Tent more central to the site.

Alongside the programme of events, there is a Kids Kitchen, Field Stage and performances from The Black Marcs, Mike Gatto, Granary House Band, James Squire, Elle Coles, Stax, The Crazy Knights.

One of the organisers, Sally Anderson, said: “This year is very exciting as we are back after a long break and we have gone ‘Back to Our Roots’ with a great line-up.

"In addition to our regular activities that people have grown to know and love, we’ll have lots of ideas to care for our planet and feed our bodies and soul too. We have some brilliant chefs with unusual ideas - and of course some exciting local bands and musicians as well.”
