Mobile operator Three has issued a statement after signal outages affecting customers across Darlington.

Residents in the town reported issues receiving calls or messages, and with data connectivity earlier this week. Many said their connection had totally cut out in the town centre.

The Echo understands the issue has arisen after a power issue with the operator’s transmitted mounted on the derelict Northgate House.

A generator is currently being used, which may be affecting coverage, and work is underway to restore a permanent power supply as soon as possible.

A Three spokesperson said: “We have identified and are working on issues to restore a full service to customers in central Darlington.

“We ask any customers suffering issues to contact Three customer services to report the problem. Three’s customer service line is open 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday, and 09:00 to 18:00 Saturday and Sunday. It can be reached by calling 0333 338 1001.”

The issue is also affecting customers on iD Mobile and Smarty, which both use the Three network.

Northgate House, where the transmitted is mounted, has been slammed an eyesore by many in the town with proposals in place to demolish it.
