One eyewitness claims the fire left the back of the house and garden “black” with smashed windows as the cause of the incident currently remains unknown.

The resident, who lives on the neighbouring street Marske Grove, took a video of the terrifying incident as crews battled the blaze late in to the night.

They said: “I was in bed and my boyfriend came home after the night shift alerting me that there was a huge fire.

“We went outside and it honestly looked worse in real life, engulfing the whole house almost.”

The Northern Echo contacted County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service for a statement regarding the fire.
