From Parmo to peas pudding, people in the North East have shared the dishes they consider to be exclusive to the region.

The survey was conducted on social media and hundreds of replies were shared.

Parmo, a breaded and fried chicken covered with béchamel sauce and melted cheese, was the most popular answer among survey participants.

Some of the respondents had never heard of the dish before moving to the area, while others, like John Brown, mentioned that they had grown up with it.

Stotties, a flat bread roll that is thicker than a typical sandwich bread, were another popular answer.

Many people mentioned that other parts of the country claim to sell stotties, but they are not as authentic as those made in the North East.

Pease pudding was mentioned numerous times among the replies.

A few people who had moved away from the region mentioned that they had to make pease pudding themselves, while others mentioned taking tubs of it with them when they left.

Mentions of panackelty, lemon tops, and choppy salad were also included in the responses.

Meanwhile, dishes like tripe and savoury ducks were mentioned by just a few participants.

Aside from food, some people also mentioned drinks that they considered to be specific to the region, like a brown ale.
