One man has suffered serious injuries after an assault outside a North East city centre bar last month.

Northumbria Police are appealing for more information after two men were taken to hospital following an alleged assault outside Wafi Lounge on Clayton Street West, Newcastle just before 11.30pm on Sunday, April 9.

Two men were reportedly punched by another two men, both wearing dark clothing, who then fled the scene.

Both were taken to hospital where one one of the men was found to have suffered serious head injuries.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the other man sustained minor injuries and was later discharged.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Officers received a report that just before 11.30pm on Sunday, April 9, an altercation had taken place outside Wafi Lounge, on Clayton Street West.

"Two men were reported to have been punched by another two men, both wearing dark clothing, who then fled the scene on foot.

"Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

"One of the men was found to have suffered serious head injuries.

"He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.

They said any information could assist officers in their enquiries.
