A North East man has been fined after being caught using a television without a TV licence.

Didar Mohammed, aged 26 of Dove Row in North Shields had his case heard before Teesside Magistrates Court on May 19.

He was fined £40 after using a colour television receiver without a licence at the address.

Mohammed was found guilty and ordered to pay £34 to victim services and was also made to pay £120 in court costs.

Overall he was made to pay £194 for the crime.

Homeowners or tenants of properties are required to pay for a licence if you watch and record programmes through a TV or computer or other device.

By purchasing a licence it covers anyone in the residence that watches or records live TV through any device.

Currently, the cost of a colour TV licence is £159, which can be paid monthly, quarterly or in one lump sum.
