A forensic crime scene investigation is being carried out after police cordoned off a North East street.

A large number of emergency services were called out to the Burbank area of Hartlepool late this afternoon (Monday, May 22).

Police taped off Spurn Walk and several officers could be seen carrying out inquiries.

The Northern Echo has been told specialist officers in white overall have also been at the scene.

It is understood there were reports of an assault and the Great North Air Ambulance landed on Mainsforth Terrace nearby.

The North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from the police at 4.20pm today (22 May) to attend an incident at a private address in the Hartlepool area.

"We dispatched the air ambulance, two ambulance crews and a specialist paramedic to the scene.”

Cleveland Police has been contacted for information.
