A popular high street pub reopened with the help of a 'community hero' last week following a sizable investment.

The Miners Arms on Eston High Street, Middlesbrough, opened its doors again on Thursday (May 18) after an investment of £310,000.

The ocassion, headed up by "community hero", Nicki Jack, was attended by Redcar MP Jacob Young, who spoke with her about the pub's future plans.

Ms Jack said she was delighted with the watering hole's opening night and enjoyed welcoming new and returning customers.

She said: "Opening night was fantastic, it was amazing to see all our customers, old and new, coming to see what the pub has to offer.

“The feedback we received from our community was amazing, and we can’t wait to see them again soon.”

Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “The refurbishment at the Miners Arms looks fantastic, the team has worked really hard to ensure it is a success for the local community.

The pub has been renovated to allow for a dedicated sports and entertainment area to be installed, as well as a brand-new bar and new furniture and flooring.

It also sports flat-screen televisions for the entertainment area, as well as brand new lighting and signage to greet customers, and a refurbished outdoor space.

Customers were treated to a live rock performance from local singer and artist, Micky Glamz.

The Miners Arms provides a wide range of drinks offers, including cocktails, wine and fizz promotions, well as a full sports package including Sky, BT Sports and Horse Racing.

The pub will also host an annual schedule of events for the community to enjoy including Sunday games afternoons, as well as charity events in aid of the local foodbank.

Proper Pubs will be supporting communities through an array of events and charity fundraising initiatives.

This Easter, it has collected over 12,200 Easter Eggs for local charities and recently installed its 85th defibrillator across its estate.
