A BBC Radio Tees presenter has decided to leave his popular breakfast programme, due to local Radio cuts.

The plans in place are to digitalise local radio and focus more on online content.

Chatting today on air, Neil Green said: “After presenting for BBC Radio Tees and previously BBC Radio Cleveland, this morning is my last show.

"The BBC said last year said they were making changes to Local Radio and because I could, I decided for that reason it was time for me to go.

"I care passionately about public service broadcasting and I wish all of my dedicated and hard working colleagues the very best.

"I am lucky enough to have worked with some incredible people over the years and I just wanted to take the time to thank them and most importantly you for everything you have done for everything to support me.“

Neil joined the BBC in 2002, presenting a news programme and later the breakfast show for BBC Radio Cleveland and later Radio Tees.

A BBC spokesperson said: “Neil is a very talented broadcaster who has always taken real joy in serving his local area. Listeners have loved the passion Neil has for representing the amazing people of Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire. We respect his decision to leave and he will be very much missed.”

“We have a plan to modernise local services across England - including more news journalists and a stronger local online service – which will see no overall reduction in staffing levels or local funding. Our goal is a local service across tv, radio and online that delivers even greater value to communities.”
