A man was taken to hospital with broken ribs following a crash on Teesside last night.

The incident happened shortly before 8pm yesterday (Monday, May 8) in Newton Bewley, near Hartlepool.

The 58-year-old driver was taken to University Hospital of North Tees with two broken ribs, a fracture to his vertebrae and a cut to his head.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “A grey Skoda Octavia and a white Audi A5 were involved in a collision on the A689 in Newton Bewley shortly before 8pm on Monday, May 8.

“The 58-year-old man driving the Octavia was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he received medical treatment to two broken ribs, a fracture to his vertebrae and a cut to his hand. 

“The road was closed for some time whilst the vehicles were recovered.”

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 19:52pm yesterday to a road traffic collision on Stockton Road, Newton Bewley.

“One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Tees.”
