Once the dust settled after several hours of counting in Stockton today (Friday, May 5), the Conservative party had claimed the most seats - but only just.
No party had overall control of Stockton Council following the previous elections in 2019 - and that situation remains.

Today's results saw Conservatives win 23 of the seats up for grabs, Labour claimed 22, and Independents won eight seats on the council.
Three other seats, in the Hartburn ward, will be decided on June 22, following the death of Reform UK candidate Mike Elliott.
However, no party will be able to gain the number of seats required to gain a majority.
