A motorbike rider caused an elderly woman to impale her finger after knocking her over when mounting a pavement.

Northumbria Police are appealing for more information after an elderly woman was injured and a Police Community Support Officer knocked to the ground by a man on an electric motorbike in Newcastle city centre earlier this year (February 10).

They said a man on a Talaria Sting electric motorbike mounted the pavement on Pilgrim Street at about 6pm.

The Northern Echo:

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment on her injuries and discharged a short time later.

Police attempted to stop the man but he rode towards them and collided with an officer, before fleeing on foot.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Officers attempted to stop the man but he rode towards them, colliding with a Police Community Support Officer.

"He then also collided with an elderly woman, causing a crochet needle which was in her handbag to go through one of her fingers.

"The motorbike rider then fled from the scene on foot.

Police have today (May 2) released images of the electric motorbike as part of an appeal to trace the person responsible.
