Voters in Middlesbrough will take to the polls on Thursday May 4 as they elect new councillors, and a mayor.

As with other elections across the region, Labour will be hoping to prove 2019 was a blip by taking back majority control of the council.

There are 46 councillor seats up for grabs, with the Labour party currently holding 21 of these spots, three short of the 24 needed for a majority.

There are 22 independent councillors while the Conservatives have just three positions on the council.

And voters will not just be voting for local councillors as Middlesbrough Council also has an elected mayor.

Currently held by Independent Andy Preston, the mayoral role is also up for election with four candidates hoping to win over voters.
