PLANS have been submitted to Durham County Council to change the use of land in West Auckland to allow the siting of 119 holiday chalets, 80 pitches for touring caravans and the creation of a new amenity building with reception, cafe and shop.

The plans also include the re-cladding of the existing Acrum Stud stables, at Acrum Lodge, Staindrop Road, West Auckland.

A planning statement has been produced by AMS Planning to support the application, on behalf of P. Seagrave, seeking consent for the change of use of land at Acrum Stud, West Auckland, to create a new tourist chalet park with touring caravan pitches, amenity building, three wash blocks and the re-cladding of the existing Acrum Stud equestrian building.

The site will include 119 holiday chalets, 80 pitches for touring caravans and the creation of a new amenity building with reception, cafe and shop.

The existing Acrum Stud stables will be retained in situ and re-clad with new materials to improve the aesthetic of the building.

The subject site comprises three parcels of grazing land associated with Acrum equestrian stud farm, located west of the A668, south west of West Auckland, County Durham.

A total of four areas of new native woodland block planting is proposed, including a substantial stretch along the northern boundary to restrict long distance views from West Auckland.

The delivery of the scheme as proposed would not require the removal of any existing trees, but instead the planting of a substantial number across the site.

Areas of new native hedgerow planting is proposed along key boundaries, as well as extensive areas of new wildflower grassland and ornamental trees at the site entrance.

One wash block will be provided in phase 1 as an alternative option for chalet guests, with two further blocks provided in phase 3 to service the proposed touring caravan pitches.

Each wash block will provide separate male and female WC and showers, along with a separately accessed combined disabled WC and shower. A laundry space and kitchen/food prep area is also provided within each block.
