A Washington woman has said she is positively “overwhelmed” after her Coronation-themed window art saw her go viral online.

Lisa Malia, who lives in Chester Le-Street, owns, and has run ‘Fab Faces Washington’ since 2013, and has seen business boom after her patriotic Coronation themed windows blew people away online.

In the lead-up to the Coronation on May 6, Lisa has been painting crowns, the British flag and even His Majesty himself on windows across Wearside this month.

The Northern Echo spoke to Lisa about her business, as she admitted social media has “gone mad” for her amazing artwork.

“The response from the posts on groups and pages has gone quite well. I have a couple of more windows booked in.”

“I’ve just had loads of people in boxing, liking the page and sharing the page. The response and the feedback for the windows I’ve done has been overwhelming.”

Lisa revealed she fell into window painting, after the lockdown in 2020 meant she could not run her face painting business.

She said: “I did a degree in art at Sunderland University, but I didn’t do much with it until 2013. I did a bit of face painting on a little boy for school and took the business from there.

“Then when COVID came I couldn’t work. I saw people paining rainbows on their windows and I got involved that way – it really took off!”

The Washington artist has been painting everything from the easter bunny to Santa Claus on local businesses and homeowners’ windows, telling the Echo she covers “every occasion”.

Her portfolio also includes Christmas muppet themed pieces, and a window fit for royalty celebrating Elizabeth II’s jubilee last year.

Now, with King Charles’ Coronation just around the corner, Lisa admitted she is “proud” of the way the country comes together for events like these.

She said: “I’ll be watching on the TV, and I’m taking the weekend off.

“I’m quite proud of the way the country gets behind things like this, with the monarchy and other national events.

“I think it’s definitely something to be proud of.”
