Police have issued an update after a bus and car collided in Darlington on Wednesday (April 19) - leaving both vehicles with severe damage and three people in hospital.

Police were called shortly before 4.30pm last night (April 19) to reports of a two vehicle collision on Northgate, Darlington.

It involved a Peugeot 3008 which is believed to have collided with a bus.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and both vehicles were recovered.

The ambulance service confirmed that three people had been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on a busy Darlington road.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed on Wednesday that three people have been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital after a crash on the A167 Northgate in Darlington today (April 19).

The ambulance service received a report of the crash, which took place outside Kaspa's Desserts, at just before 4.20pm.

An NEAS spokesperson said three ambulance crews were sent to the scene, before three people were sent to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesperson said: "We received a call this afternoon to reports of a road traffic incident outside Kaspas on Northgate in Darlington. 

"We sent three ambulance crews and took three patients to Darlington Memorial Hospital for further treatment."

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly before 4.30pm last night (April 19) to reports of a two vehicle collision on Northgate, Darlington.

"It involved a Peugeot 3008 which is believed to have collided with a bus.

"The driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and both vehicles were recovered."

Images of the scene showed serious damage done to the front of the car and back of the bus.
