A worker at a North East car factory has died after reportedly suffering a suspected heart attack yesterday.

Nissan bosses have confirmed a man died at the Sunderland factory in Washington on Monday (April 14).

The man reportedly suffered a suspected heart attack yesterday afternoon.

Adam Pennick, vice president, of manufacturing, at Nissan Sunderland Plant, said their thoughts are with their colleague's family and friends.

He said: “Sadly a member of our team passed away while at work today.

"Our thoughts are with our colleague’s family, and those close to him, at this extremely sad time.”

A spokesperson said production was suspended for a short time as a result of the incident.

They said the man worked in an offline area and not on the line.
