Three people have been seriously injured in a crash which brought a huge emergency service response on Sunday afternoon.

At least a dozen emergency vehicles and two air ambulance attended the incident shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday (April 16).

Three people were found ‘seriously ill’ at the scene. Two of them were airlifted to hospital and the other was taken by road.

The incident happened on the B6282 in Teesdale, between Eggleston and Middleton, near the Bogg House Farm.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing emergency vehicles and the air ambulance coming in, with one saying “don’t think I’ve ever seen so many”.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called this afternoon at 4.36pm to a two-vehicle road traffic incident on the B6282 in Eggleston near Burn Bridge.

"We sent two air ambulances, a duty officer, a community paramedic and three emergency ambulance crews.

“There were three seriously ill patients at the scene.  We took one patient to James Cook by road and two further patients were transported by air ambulance - one to RVI and one to James Cook hospitals.”
