A new independent bar has opened in the heart of Newcastle's party scene, serving up 120 different cocktails, all-American food, and "some of the best music from the last five decades".

MOJO, branded as a "cocktail bar and all-day hangout", is now open at The Gate off of Newgate Street in Newcastle. The venue stretches the length of the ground floor, and has space for a raft of games, including beerpong and shuffleboard.

Good Friday saw the opening party, with the watering hole welcoming in over 600 patrons to kickstart the new bar. Also unveiled at the party was an original piece of artwork from Newcastle street artist and graphic designer Mul Draws.

Known for good drinks and better music, MOJO will be serving up their menu to one of the best late-night rock and indie soundtracks in town. As a brand, they have been mixing drinks to indie and rock music since 1996, when they opened their first venue on Leeds' Merrion Street.

The homemade food menu spans from small bites like chicken wings and fully loaded fries to larger dishes like MOJO’s Dirty Smash Burgers, hand-stretched pizzas, and sweet treats such as waffles and pancakes. Vegan options are available throughout and Bottomless Brunch will also be served throughout the week.

Martin Greenhow, MOJO's Managing Director, said: "We had a fantastic time celebrating the opening of our newest bar in Newcastle.

"It was exciting to see such a great turn out for the party and it gave us a chance to showcase all the hard work that the team has put in over the last few months, from the design of the bar itself, to the new cocktails and dishes.

"We can’t wait to welcome more people down to the new bar and continue spreading our ethos of bringing music for the people, food for the soul and good times forever."
