Seven individuals and companies in the North East have been named and shamed by HMRC for almost £640,000 worth of unpaid tax between them.

HMRC publishes details every three months of people and businesses given financial penalties for failing to comply with tax obligations, or deliberately filing errors in tax returns.

Details are only released when a person or business has made at least one deliberate default on more than £25,000.

Among those named and shamed on a newly released list Nigel George Hall, a Northallerton-based builder, was charged whopping penalties of £193,000 on almost £300,000 of defaulted tax spanning a six-year period.

And Sunderland man Lee William Davison was charged penalties of more than £63,000 for defaulted tax while trading as catering business ‘Proper Roast’

In total almost £640,000 of defaulted tax was racked up by seven businesses or individuals.

Here are the names of those named and shamed on the list published last month.

Lee William Davidson

Davidson, formerly of Derwent Street, Sunderland, who traded as ‘Proper Roast’ defaulted on £63,942.99 worth of tax between April 2020 and April 2021.

He was charged penalties of the same amount.

Liam Kenneth Fairley

Bricklayer Laim Kenneth Fairley of Tilbury Road, Sunderland and formerly of Beech Avenue, Houghton-le-Spring racked up a total of £35,357 of defaulted tax.

He defaulted during a three year period between April 2018 and April 2021, and was charged penalties of £23,512.39.

Kyle David Morrison

Morrison, a builder formerly of Priory Close, Guisborough and Egglestone Court, Skelton in Cleveland, defaulted on £35,695.71 of tax over two spells between April 2018 and April 2019, and then April 2020 and April 2021.

Morrison was charged penalties of £21,238.93.

Nigel George Hall

Nigel George Hall defaulted on a massive £299,136.50 of tax/duties between 2012 and 2018.

The Northallerton-based builder, of East Cowton, was charged penalties of £193,690.87.

Paul Parkin

Roofer Paul Parking, formerly of Sycamore Grove, Willington, racked up defaulted tax totalling £67,068.32 between April 2019 and the same month in 2021 trading as D L Roofing.

He was charged penalties of £42,976.78

Mohammed Jalil Sharif, also known as Jalil Sharif

Sharif, formerly of Hildyard Row, Catterick and trading as Pizza Pronto defaulted on £88,157.50 of tax/duties over a five-year spell from July 2016 to June 2021. He was charged £42,976.78 of penalties.

Alan Waggott

Haulage boss Alan Waggott defaulted on £50,580.41 of tax between April 2015 and the same month of 2020 trading as Alan Waggott Haulage.

Waggott, formerly of Belle Vue, Crook, was charged penalties of £26,554.69

In 2018 he was fined £6,007 after pleading guilty to various environmental offences including illegally landfilling waste.
