A prolific thief who stole detergent worth £78 from a supermarket in County Durham has been jailed.

Kieran Lee Wynn stole the detergent from the Co-op in Ferryhill on Wednesday, March 22.

Staff called the police when they realised what had happened.

After reviewing CCTV footage, police checked an associated address where they found the 30-year-old.

He was hiding next to the bed was in the company of a woman despite there being a restraining order in place.

He was then arrested with theft and breaching a restraining order.

He appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, March 29) where he pleaded guilty to the offences, along with an extra offence of breach of an existing suspended sentence.

He was sentenced to a total of 26 weeks in custody.

A spokesperson for Spennymoor and Ferryhill Police said: “Kieran Lee Wynn formerly of Ferryhill, stole detergent worth £78 from the Co-op store in Ferryhill on March 22.

“When staff realised the items were gone, they called police and a review of the CCTV identified Wynn as a suspect.

“When officers checked an associated address, they found the 30-year-old hiding next to the bed and in company with a woman despite there being a restraining order in place.

“He was arrested and charged with theft and breaching a restraining order.

“He appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today where he pleaded guilty to the offences along with an extra offence of breach of an existing suspended sentence.

“He was sentenced to a total of 26 weeks in custody.”
