Argentinian steak is on the menu at a new restaurant claiming to be the first in the region with ‘carbon-neutral’ beef.

Premium steakhouse chain Gaucho unveiled its first North East restaurant in Newcastle City Centre over the weekend following a massive seven-figure investment.

The 120-cover restaurant on the corner of Market Street and Pilgrim Street has taken over the former Virgin Money building and decked it out with a fancy interior.

Sixty new jobs have been created with the opening of the new restaurant over the weekend.

Warm, dark tones and pampas grass finish off the restaurant, hinting as the menu’s Argentinian roots and steak from the flat Pampas region of South America.

A glamorous bar and sleek private dining rooms are also on offer, with tables available to book now.

The firm says all of the beef in its restaurants is carbon-neutral, and all of its restaurants will be net-zero by 2040.

The restaurant will run on 100% renewable energy, and also have a zero food-to-landfill policy.

A host of famous faces including Alan Shearer, Jill Halfpenny, Dan Burn and Jonnie Irwin paid a visit to the restaurant on Thursday (March 9) for a special launch event.
