After a week that's seen an Arctic blast bring huge snow that's closed roads and schools in the North East, Yellow Warnings for snow and ice remain in place from the MetOffice for this weekend.
The Yellow Warning for snow covers most of Scotland and the entire northern half of England, and is in place from 3pm today until 6am tomorrow (Sunday). The MetOffice says that people can expect the following:
- Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
- Possible delays or cancellations to air travel
- Bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible
- Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable
- A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
- There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
The extended cold weather comes after Storm Larisa blanketed the North East in snow, leading to huge disruption in the region.
